đ¤ Artist Spotlight: Head to the Roots
We caught up with frontman Anthony Siciliano of Head to the Roots ahead of their set at Big G. Hereâs the full interview:
Interview with Anthony Siciliano (Head to the Roots)
1. For those new to Head to the Roots â whatâs the heart behind the project?
The heart behind HTTR is a desire to share music that brings about a joy and connection, personal to the listener, so that they are left feeling in a positive way.
2. Youâve played The G Lodge before â what is it about that place that keeps you coming back?
The music-loving people, those high pines in the forest, the fun stages, and the warmth from the staff and crew.
3. What themes or messages do you find yourself returning to in your songwriting?
These songs are full of star stuff, love for humanity, love for individuality, love for the planet, and contemplations of being human, being here, and being now.
4. Who are your biggest influences â musically or spiritually?
Lyrically: Dave Matthews, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan.
Spiritually: Bob Marley, Carlos Santana, Xavier Rudd.
Musically: all of the aboveâand about 100 more I havenât named!
5. Your sound feels like a road trip through the mountains â is that intentional?
Love to hear that! Yeah, itâs intentional. Road trips can bring personal transformation. I want the music to feel like thatâa journey that sparks growth and beauty.
6. What does your creative process look like these days? Songs first? Vibes first?
Guitar groove and vibe first. Once it feels good under the hands and in the body, everything else flows from there.
7. What kind of energy are you bringing to Big G Jam this year?
Punky reggae rock and roll feel-good folky freak-out energy!
8. Whatâs a live moment thatâs stuck with you â one of those âgoosebumpsâ shows?
I once saw Santana at the House of Blues in Vegasâserious juju. But also, our solstice set at G Lodge felt cosmic. The crowd and band became one, and something greater took over. One of the greatest feelings ever.
9. If someoneâs never been to The G Lodge, what would you tell them makes it special?
There are lovely people wandering those serene, secluded groundsâand itâs easy to make a new friend. The sunsets are pretty magical, too.
10. Whatâs something people might not expect about your music or performances?
How energetic the show can getâand that we often bring out the didgeridoo, an aboriginal instrument that adds a wild, thunderous sound.
11. Whatâs next for Head to the Roots after Big G?
Weâve got new music debuting live thatâll help shape the next record. Plus, touring through the rest of the yearâand weâll be announcing a reggae tribute show this fall.
12. If your music were a natural element â fire, water, air, or earth â which would it be and why?
Water. Itâs emotionally fluid, and each song carries a new emotional wave. But all the elements show upâand each band member brings a different kind of energy to the mix.
